Kirin Megumi Stories Vol.34 bistro GOEMON

Newly opened 3 months ago in Elsternwick. Bistro GOEMON uses Japanese cuisine as the base to their culinary creations.

Owner Mr. Sato explained that he was inspired by Japanese people his age in Melbourne who were working as head chefs or restaurant owners. It’s been 10 years since he entered the cuisine scene, and he is still reproducing the methods he was taught by his strict mentor to always cherish your ingredients right to the end. From this, he is always using materials to their full potential.

‘Most people who visit Japan say the cuisine there is delicious, right? That means Japanese food would be appreciated in other countries as well’ he thought. So, he created a restaurant that provides unique and exclusive food that people want to eat, with a concept based on ‘delicious food created by Japanese people’.

Bistro GOEMON doesn’t serve popular Japanese dishes such as curry, yakisoba or ramen, but features Mr. Sato’s original dishes.

He has his own theory about alcohol. Mr. Sato picked wines himself at a winery where he occasionally goes with staff members. The restaurant only serves wine that satisfies his palate. Plus, they are all reasonably priced.

Kirin Megumi beer is featured at Bistro GOEMON because it is just common sense that the subtle flavour of Japanese dishes work best with the subtle flavour of this beer. This is a light lager that is popular among women.

Trial and error is used in creating this Japanese based seasoning. Extra things may be added, but ‘less is more’ can be just as important. It is based on simplicity, then adding a bit of something and removing something else.

There is also a secret menu that will entice you, simply ask one of our friendly staff! The symbol of the restaurant is the big octagonal window. Come by some time!
