There are various kinds even if we say tea (or green tea).  Both the taste and the fragrance totally vary according to the cultivation method and rocess of manufacture, and also there is a good point in each.

Why don’t you enjoy tea breaks more by knowing the kind and characteristic of tea?

 

■Sencha  – Middle Quality Green Tea

Sencha is a kind of tea drunk the most in Japan. The most of a thing called "green tea" is sencha. It features a refreshing fragrance and moderate bitterness.

 

■Fukamushicha – Deep-steamed Green Tea

It is the green tea which is lengthened the steaming time of the tea leaf approximately 2 times than normal green tea of medium quality.  There are low leaf smell and bitterness, and taste is stronger and green of the tea appear deeper than sencha.

 

■Bancha – Coarse Green Tea

It is sencha which the picking up season of the tea leaf is later than normal green tea (sencha).  There are few caffeine, stimulation ingredients and bitterness, and features refreshing taste.

 

■Genmaicha – Green Tea with Roasted Rice

It is the sencha or bancha blended with rice which is dipped into water, then steamed and roasted. Enjoy the nice roasted rice smell and refreshing taste. Because of few caffeine and stimulation ingredients, everyone from kids to elderly can enjoy.

 

■Genmaicha with Green Tea Powder

It is the genmaicha blended with green tea powder. It is popular because of the refreshing taste and the rich body by green tea powder.

 

■Gyokuro – High Quality Green Tea

It is the high quality green tea which cultivated by shutting out the sunlight when a sprout had begun to open. Umami taste is included in richness more and features rich taste with natural sweetness.

 

■Kabusecha – Covered Tea

It is the tea which cultivated by shutting out the sunlight for seven days before harvesting sprouts. There is little bitterness and full of taste. It is the tea which is simplified a troublesome gyokuro cultivation method. The quality is the middle of sencha and gyokuro.

 

■Hojicha – Roasted Green Tea

It is bancha or sencha roasted over a high heat to reduce bitterness and bring out a nice smell. It features fragrance and refreshing taste.

 

■Kukicha – Stalk Green Tea

It is the green tea using the stem which is sorted at finish process of gyokuro or sencha.  There are unique refreshing fragrance and sweetness. It is also called "Karigane” in a Japanese part and is valued high.

 

■Mecha – Bud Tea

It is the green tea using the thin part of the point of the young leave and the ball-shaped young leave which are sorted at finish process of gyokuro or sencha. It is included umami taste of the tea in richness. It can be brewed twice or third because taste is given strongly.

 

■Konacha – Dust Tea

It is the green tea which sorted only powder at a finish process of gyokuro or sencha. It can be taken in active ingredients which do not dissolve in water effectively in comparison with sencha. It is bright thick green tea.

 

■Maccha – Green Tea Powder

Maccha is grinded tea leaves which cultivated like gyokuro, steamed and dried, by a stone mill.

■Black Tea

It is the tea which let tea leaves after picking wilt and is completely fermented.

■Oolong Tea

Oolong tea is stopped on the way to black tea fermentation method by heating.

It is the tea which was able to hit a fragrance of fresh jasmine to the green tea by roast and roll method.
