Ryukyu music and dance group “CHURA” version:

Chura-shima (beautiful island) / Feast of Joy ~Welcome to Okinawa~

A tropical island, Okinawa.  Since the old days, the island has been building such an unique history and culture as the center of the international cultural exchange to maintain trade relations with China, Korea, Southeast Asian countries, and Mainland Japan. Back in Ryu-kyu Kingdom era, the traditional Okinawan arts and the culture was drastically influenced and became richer through such cultural exchanges with foreign countries.  Okinawa surely is the mecca of song, dance, and performing arts.

Okinawans have been living with such manners to be cheerful, tough, kind, and positive—we have an inherited living will-power and the experiences from cultural exchanges to create original songs and dances, which we consider as the happiness of our lives so-called “the medicine of the lives”.  “The medicine of the lives: Performing Arts” is the true heart and soul of Okinawan who hope the world peace, fine harvest, and happiness.

The originality of our program is directly derived from our traditions, lifestyles, and unique environment—the harmony of the joy and the passion coming from the bright sun of Okinawa is surely going to be presented.
